Fasouri Watermania – Limassol

Tel: 25 714 235                                                                                                                      Website
If you are young, or still aspire to be, Fasouri Waterpark is for you.  It boasts speed slides, a lazy river, wave pool, kiddies pool and a big, inflatable dome to keep you wet and weary all day long..will you brave the kamikaze?!

There is also a good choice of eateries, where you can indulge in mini-donuts, crepes and icecreams (or a smoothie for the health-conscious!).

Fasouri is our preferred waterpark on the island because it is safe, clean, renovated annually and well manned with qualified lifeguards.

Directions: Take the A6 motorway to Limassol, getting off before the 1st flyover at the 1st roundabout (signposted port). Head towards the port, turn right at traffic lights, follow signs for waterpark.  Googlemap image.

Polis and Latchi

Approx. 40 mins. drive north of Paphos you will find Polis and Latchi (Latsi on maps).

Polis is busy in high season, but worth a stop and a coffee in the village square. A 10 min drive to the West you will find Latsi, a beautiful fishing village with a picturesque harbour, a lovely spot for lunch – particularly for seafood options.  Visit one of the sandy beaches for a relaxing day of sunbathing and snorkelling.  The ‘secret’ beach down the cliff edge (lots of steps!) of the Aphrodite Beach restaurant is great and is also really close to the entry of the Baths of Aphrodite as well as the starting point of two wonderful walks (Adonis Trail / Aphrodite Baths Trail)

The 'secret beach' at Latchi

The ‘secret beach’ at Latchi

The coastline is very pretty, and is where the Akamas peninsular begins in the north. The long beach is great for children to run around and kite flying is a favourite here for the locals. Googlemap Link for Polis / Googlemap Link for Latsi.

The old town is a higgledy piggledy area of small streets, abandoned buildings, wonderful old balustrades, doorways and small shops. Ledra street is a pedestrianised street full of lovely shops and cafes, and from here you can go on foot for a trip over the border (which is quite relaxed these days, but you must take your passport to cross the border) to the Turkish side (officially known as the occupied territories).

Other hot spots include walking alongside the Venetian walls which surround the old town, and also the Hamam Omerye in old town which is a completely renovated 14th-century building where you can have an authentic Hamam experience!

Turn left out of Aphrodite Hills and get on the motorway towards Limassol. Follow signs to Nicosia (Lefkosia) which will take just under 2 hours. Stay on the same road which runs into Archbishop Makarios Avenue and either park in the Hilton Hotel car park (left), or continue to the centre past main shops (M&S, Mango etc), and park in car park on the left. The OLD TOWN is found behind the Holiday Inn.  Googlemap Link for Ledras.

Larnaka and Ayia Napa

Salt lakes where the flamingos stop on their migration. Pleasant sea front. 1 hour drive.

Hala Sultan Tekke historical mosque – built in 1816 on the site of a sacred shrine.

Ayia Napa
Good water park. Best beaches in Protaras. All the above are about a 2 – 2.5 hours drive.

Kakopetria – Troodos

Day trip - Kakopetria

This scenic drive up into the Troodos to Kakopetria takes about an hour and a half. Park in the centre and enjoy the back streets and cobbled alleys in the old quarter. There are several churches in the area with well preserved frescoes. Cross the river and have lunch in THE MILL where the speciality is localtrout.

Turn left out of Aphrodite Hills and take the motorway towards Limassol. Take the B8 through Trimiklini. (Outskirts of Limassol). Googlemap Link.

Artist’s Village Tour

Day Trip - Pots

Take the motorway towards Limassol and get off at the Polemidia exit. Take the B8 to Troodos. MONAGRI is approx. 13 miles from Limassol, and here you will find the 12C Monastery of Archangelos.

The village church is now used as a gallery for local artists. Further up the B8 is a right hand turn to LANIA, a charming village with pretty cottages and alleys. Here there are several artist studios and galleries. Saturday is when most are open.

Back on the B8 and follow signs to PLATRES (TSIAKKAS WINERY is en route in Pelendria). Pano Platres is 1,150m high and LAMBOURI WINERY can be found here, along with PSILODENDRO TROUT FARM (lunches available). Next to the trout farm is the start of the KALEDONIAN NATURE TRAIL.

Anogyra is a pretty, stone village with a ruined monastery, OLIVE OIL MUSEUM with tasting and NICOLAIDES WINERY.

Turn left out of Aphrodite Hills and get on the motorway towards LIMASSOL. Take the turning off to Anogyra/Avdimou. Just at the end of the village turn left. Follow the signs for Anogyra which you should reach in 20 mins. Googlemap Link.

Kolios Winery

Day Trip - BarrelsVisit Kolios to discover some of the island’s best wines and learn about the process that goes into making them. Lunch is a popular option but booking required. Wine boxes here are good value, but do try the wine first!

Turn right out of Aphrodite Hills and get on the motorway towards Paphos. Go past the airport turning and turn off at signs to Troodos/Agia Varvara (E606). Follow the road up into the hills for approx 35mins. (You will pass through several small villages, and see some wonderful views.) Finally you will come to STATOS AGIOS FOTOS and the winery will be on your left hand side.
Continue along this road a couple of miles and you will come to CHRISORROGIATISSA Monastery. It is worth a wander around this peaceful enclave. For a full day out, continue up into the Troodos to KYKKOS MONASTERY.

Day Trip - KoukliaA visit to APHRODITE’S SANCTUARY is recommended and also the small PANAGIA KATHOLIKI CHURCH which is opposite. There is a small family run SNAKE FARM in the village showing local snakes of Cyprus, not for the faint hearted!

Turn right from Aphrodite Hills and continue along the B6 for about 3 miles. Follow signs to Kouklia up hill on right hand side.  Googlemap link.

Paphos Harbour

The harbour is a popular spot for lunch, where you might even catch a glimpse of the local pelicans strolling along the pedestrian area.  There are various options for boat trips and boat hire here.  A visit to the MOSAICS is really interesting, the entrance is between the harbour and parking area, allow one or two hours.  Tomb of the Kings is also recommended.  The Old Town has a charming indoor market, which is about a 10 minute drive up the hill from the harbour.

Turn right out of Aphrodite Hills and follow the signs to Kato Paphos. Turn right when you reach the Amathus Beach Hotel, and follow the sea along to the harbour area (Parking on right hand side).  Googlemap link.

Arkoudaleia is a quaint hill village surrounded by vineyards. The HERB GARDEN is worth a visit followed by a trip to STERNA WINERY not far away. A further 5 min drive brings you to Kriton Terra where you can take a 4k walk into a deep canyon. VASILIKON WINERY is also nearby. Monstakallis Tavern recommended for lunch.

From Paphos, take the B7 to Polis. Through Stroumbi village and turn left for Kathikas. Follow signs to Pano Akourdaleia.

Day Trip - Kourion

Kourion archaeological site is a must-visit if you are into history.  There are acres of well preserved columns, mosaics and archaeological remains to explore plus an impressive amphitheatre (which still hosts concerts to date) with stunning views over KOURION BEACH and the sea.  Kourion beach is beautiful and very sandy, but the sea is a little choppy.  Chris blue bar (middle restaurant) is great for brunch or lunch if you are peckish.

Turn left out of the resort and stay on the B6 all the way through Episkopi (UK army base, about a 30 min drive). About 4 miles further turn right into KOURION. (Small payment at gate). Googlemap link.

Interview with Annabel Croft

Sport - AcademyAphrodite Hills Tennis Academy was franchised by the Annabel Croft Academy between 2013 – end of 2015 – during this time we managed to grab the Former British No 1 Ladies Tennis player, T.V presenter and Tennis Academy Owner; Annabel Croft to talk about, Travel, Tennis and Aphrodite Hills.

What is your earliest tennis memory?
Watching Virginia wade win Wimbledon. She is now a great friend and has been an incredible inspiration to me.

What is your most treasured tennis memory?
Probably playing my idol Chris Evert on Court one at Wimbledon in the third round, 1985. And also winning Junior Wimbledon on that same court the same year.

Who was your toughest opponent during your career and why?
Martina Navratilova as she was so physically strong, serve and volleyed and took time away from you. Matches went very quickly as points were short!

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?

What are the things you like most about travel?
I love to experience and explore different cultures and meet people from different parts of the world. Travel has enriched my life in so many ways. With accessibility no, the world feels so much smaller, but it’s one of the greatest privileges to be able to travel.

Why Aphrodite Hills?
Cyprus is very beautiful and particularly, so is Aphrodite Hills. The Tennis Academy facility is one of the best in Europe with a perfect climate to match. The people are charming too. Therefore, an obvious choice!

What are the things you like most about tennis coaching?
It’s very rewarding being able to pass on knowledge that was passed on to me and see the results and joy it gives to others.

What is the Annabel Croft coaching ethos?
My coaching ethos is mainly about hitting lots and lots of balls from many different parts of the court. It’s about teaching players to be able to move as well as hit a tennis ball. When you play tennis you are never static and therefore as soon as you are out of position or off balance things can go wrong. Therefore, all our drills are designed to be as close to the real scenario as possible. To give confidence as well as have fun on court. We encourage all ages and abilities and through doing the drills and hitting a large volume of balls you improve.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
The harder you practice the luckier you get!

If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring tennis players, what would it be?
Stay relaxed and enjoy! There are many thoughts that go through a players mind when playing tennis so it’s important to try to focus on one or two things and set small achievable goals.

What is your most treasured possession?
I try not to put too much emphasis on material things but I would be sad if my Junior Wimbledon cup got lost as it holds many great memories for me.

Where would you most like to live?
I love where I live in Kingston Upon Thames which is near beautiful Richmond Park with the deer and lakes, but I would like to live in the sun too.

Who, past and present would be your perfect doubles partner?
I always loved Bjorn Borg as a child and used to queue up to watch him in standing room only on centre court. I would choose him or Roger Federer.

If you could go back in time, where would you go?
I would like to live in the period of Downton Abbey wearing beautiful clothes and drinking plenty of English tea!

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Treat others how you want to be treated and don’t get stressed out. So many others have much worse lives and put whatever problem you have in perspective.

Beginners can enjoy the facilities too, with access to the driving range, brand new putting green, chipping area and 3 hole academy course, where a lesson or two may come in handy with one of the pro instructors. Junior group coaching is also a fun option in holiday months.

No expense has been spared either on or off the course at Aphrodite Hills, and the newly refurbished clubhouse is certainly a match for the best anywhere in the world.

Top Tip: Do book early tee-off times in the hot summer months to avoid being on the course in the midday heat. Book as soon as you can – the course is very busy year round. Contact the Proshop for rate and availability information. Tel: 26 828 200
